Chapter History

Established in 1956, the Mount Diablo Alumnae Chapter (MDAC) is open to Tri Delta Alumnae living in Contra Costa and Alameda Counties.  Members range in age from 22 to 90 and represent 27 different collegiate chapters.  Monthly programs are typically held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month from September through May beginning at 6:30 p.m. Past programs and activities have included chocolate tasting and red wine pairings, flower arranging, holiday ornament exchange, philanthropy night, a white elephant exchange and wine tasting with gourmet appetizers. In November, Founder’s Day is traditionally celebrated with the lovely Founder’s Day ceremony and in May, Pansy Dinner is expanded to include the graduating seniors from UC Berkeley (Pi Chapter) as they go through Circle Degree.

In addition, the chapter supports six Interest Groups in which MDAC members are enthusiastic and active participants.  The groups are:  Bookworms, Bridge, Community Service, Food/Wine/Art, Just Lunch and Young Alums.  The Interest Groups meet at various times throughout the year and have their own coordinators.

MDAC actively supports Pi Chapter at UC Berkeley.  Recent collegiate/alumnae events and activities have included:  Rotation Practice, Alum/Chum Tea, Career Night, and Snacks for Finals.  In addition, MDAC also sponsors the Eileen Blaine Rudolph and New Member academic awards for Pi Chapter.

The Chapter takes great pride in its Philanthropy and Community Service activities.  The chapter supports Camp Okizu, a Russian River camp for families who have a child with cancer with a traditional silent tea and crafts kits.  The chapter also supports St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by participating in the annual Give Thanks. Walk event and donations by Mt. Diablo members.  The chapter and its members also support the Delta Delta Delta Foundation.  Funds for philanthropy projects are raised through wreath sales through Christmas Forest and individual donations.
